WinNFAD v2.0.0 LRFD

WinNFAD may be used to Design/Check an 'Existing' (non-retrofit) pile footing or Design/Check a 'Retrofit' footing with any combination of 'Existing' piles and 'Retrofit' piles and 'Tie-Downs'.  A spread footing may be modeled by describing a group of 'Existing' piles with zero Tension and Lateral Force-Displacement Curves and a Compression Force-Displacement Curve to represent the soil as a spring.  The column may be placed anywhere on the footing (i.e. unsymmetrical pile layout).  The footing is analyzed separately in the longitudinal and transverse directions.  Axial loads and bending moments are applied at the column centroid about the applicable axis.  The column centroid is located at X & Y coordinates (0,0).  The footing is assumed to be infinitely rigid with no flexural deformation of the footing considered.  For a given footing rotation, a neutral axis is assumed and pile deflections are calculated.  These deflections are used to determine pile reactions from nonlinear force-deflection curves modeled as piece-wise linear curves.  The program allows separate compression, tension and lateral force-deflection curves for the existing piles and retrofit piles.  The program iterates on the neutral axis location until the sum of the vertical forces are zero.  The footing moment is then determined by summing the pile reactions about the footing neutral axis.  Refer to, Appendix-B Hand Solution, of the On-Line Help System, for a discussion to the methodology and equations used by WinNFAD. WinCSD

WinCSD v1.0.0 incorporates a User Friendly, Windows, Graphical User Interface (GUI), with On-Line Help System.  The program complies with the current 1996 AASHTO Standard Specifications for Highway Bridges with Interims and the current 2000 Caltrans Bridge Design Specifications (1996 AASHTO with Interims and Revisions by Caltrans), hereafter referred to as the "Code".  These Release Notes should be read before installing and using WinCSD.
